Submittals ensure the architect, engineer and the owner that the contractor will be installing materials per the intended design concept. Submittals consists of information detailing the materials product data, shop drawings and samples, while identifying the manufacture, and model. This information is submitted (from the contractor to the architect) for approval before they are fabricated and delivered to the project. Keep in mind the Shop Drawings, Product Data, Samples are not Contract Documents.
With this system in place it acts as a “checks and balance” during the construction phase.
